Algeria sets 12 seats for citizens abroad in new parliamentary map

Algeria’s National Independent Authority for Elections (ANIE) has officially rolled out a new structure for citizens living abroad, designating 12 seats in the People’s National Assembly for the global diaspora. The move, announced Monday, organizes Algerian voters across the globe into eight distinct geographic zones to ensure representation from Paris to Washington.
Under the new decree, the seats are strategically distributed to cover major population hubs. France, home to the largest Algerian community, is split into three zones with six total seats. Meanwhile, two seats have been allocated to the Americas, covering both North and Latin America. The remaining seats are spread across the Maghreb, Africa, the Middle East, Asia, and the rest of Europe.
Candidates will be able to file their paperwork at key diplomatic hubs, including embassies and consulates in Paris, Tunis, Washington, and Doha. Officials say the restructuring is a key step in bringing the voices of the millions of Algerians living overseas directly into the nation’s legislative process.
