Algeria, US Join forces to protect ancient treasures

Algeria and the United States are stepping up cooperation to protect cultural heritage, as experts from both countries gathered Saturday at the Palace of Culture in Algiers for a high-level study day focused on preserving and documenting historical treasures.

Organized in coordination with Algeria’s Ministry of Culture and Arts, the Foreign Affairs Ministry, and the U.S. Embassy in Algiers, the event highlighted growing bilateral efforts to crack down on the illicit trafficking and smuggling of cultural property.

Discussions centered on the use of cutting-edge technologies to safeguard archaeological sites particularly in Algeria’s vast southern regions while also modernizing museum infrastructure through smart digital systems. Experts also explored stronger international coordination to combat art-related crimes and recover stolen artifacts.

The meeting marks a major step forward in Algerian-American cultural cooperation, opening the door to deeper technical partnerships aimed at protecting historical identity and preserving global heritage for future generations.
