Algiers dives deep in the AI race

Algeria is aggressively positioning itself as Africa’s next tech powerhouse. In a high-profile gathering on Monday evening, Sid Ali Zerrouki, the Minister of Post and Telecommunications, alongside Noureddine Ouadah, the Minister of Knowledge Economy, Start-ups, and Micro-enterprises, officially inaugurated the landmark event titled “Algeria in the Era of Artificial Intelligence.”

Organized by a homegrown Algerian start-up and sponsored by the national incumbent operator Algérie Télécom, the summit underscores a rapidly shifting economic narrative in the region, one where digital sovereignty and AI-driven infrastructure take center stage on the continent.

Opening the summit, Minister Zerrouki highlighted the country’s technological backbone, stating that the postal and telecommunications sector has successfully scaled Algeria’s infrastructure to a leading position within the African continent. He emphasized that the real value lies in the local ecosystem, lauding the synergy between established economic operators and agile start-ups.

The cherry on top of the evening was the official launch of “RIPOST,” a cutting-edge, AI-powered platform engineered for strategic intelligence, social listening, and digital reputation management. The deployment of this platform highlights a broader geopolitical strategy focused on national digital sovereignty. By developing advanced AI analytics tools locally, Algeria aims to reduce reliance on foreign tech stacks for critical data monitoring and economic intelligence.

The heavy-hitting guest list, which included Kamel Moula, President of the Algerian Economic Renewal Council (CREA), and Abdelghani Aït Saïd, CEO of Algérie Télécom, signals deep institutional backing for this vision, proving that Algiers intends to write its own script in the global AI race.
