Algiers jumps into global top 50 for mobile internet speed

Algiers has made a major digital leap, breaking into the world’s Top 50 cities for mobile internet speed, after climbing an impressive 68 places in just a few months, according to the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications.
Based on the latest Ookla global speed index, the capital now ranks 48th worldwide, up from 116th last September, including an 11-place rise in the most recent update.
The report highlights strong network performance, with mobile download speeds reaching 163.31 Mbps, uploads at 24.30 Mbps, and low latency of 18 milliseconds, reflecting improved stability and efficiency.
Fixed internet also saw gains, with Algiers climbing 11 places thanks to expanding fiber-optic infrastructure, reaching 92.44 Mbps download and 42.21 Mbps upload speeds, marking a clear step forward in Algeria’s digital transformation.
