Angolan president hails Tebboune’s anti-terror leadership

Angolan President João Lourenço praised President Abdelmadjid Tebboune on Tuesday, calling him the African Union’s “champion” in the fight against terrorism and extremism in Africa.

Addressing both chambers of Algeria’s Parliament in Algiers, Lourenço commended Algeria’s efforts to help tackle the continent’s security and political challenges, warning of the growing threat posed by terrorist groups.

He also highlighted the strong historical ties between Algeria and Angola, recalling Algeria’s support during Angola’s independence struggle and paying tribute to former leaders Ahmed Ben Bella and Houari Boumediene.

The Angolan president further stressed the importance of stronger African partnerships, economic cooperation, and better representation of the continent on the international stage, while reaffirming his country’s commitment to deepening ties with Algeria.
