Arsenal , 22 years and counting

Arsenal edged within touching distance of their first English title since 2004 after a nervy 1-0 win over already-relegated Burnley at a raucous Emirates on Monday.

The Gunners perched on 82 points  will lift the crown as soon as Tuesday if Manchester City (77) slips up against Bournemouth. If City wins, Arsenal will have to close the deal at Crystal Palace on the final day while City host Aston Villa.

It wasn’t pretty, but it got the job done. In a match where chances were at a premium, Arsenal broke the deadlock from their go-to weapon: a set piece. Bukayo Saka whipped in a corner and Kai Havertz climbed highest to head home in the 37th minute, repaying the manager’s faith after starting ahead of Viktor Gyökeres. Burnley, who entered with just one league win in 27, offered little resistance.

This feels like destiny knocking  Arsenal are built for moments like these. They didn’t need fireworks, just grit and a familiar playbook. With the Champions League final on the horizon against PSG, Mikel Arteta’s side now balance two massive stages. For now, though, the city can dream: after 22 years, the trophy hunt is finally back on.
