Guelma Never let the Flame Grow Dim

Algeria marked the 81st anniversary of the May 8, 1945 massacres with a day of solemn remembrance and national movement.
Led by the Ministry of Moudjahidin and world-renowned athlete Noureddine Morceli, officials revisited the sites of colonial atrocities, including the infamous Héliopolis Slaughtering where bodies were burned to hide the scale of the massacre, and the blood-stained banks of the Seybouse River.
The commemorations took a dynamic turn with the “Kalama” International Half-Marathon. Under the slogan “We Run for Memory,” nearly 2,000 athletes from across the globe traced a 22km path of history, reclaiming the landscape from its tragic past. The day concluded with a massive “National Memory” caravan and a historical march to the heart of Guelma, ensuring that the heavy sacrifice of the martyrs remains the heartbeat of the nation.
