Homemade Chocolate and cookies brands eye global markets

The first national confectionery, biscuit and chocolate fair opened Saturday in Boumerdes, gathering 71 exhibitors from across the country in a colorful showcase of Algeria’s fast-growing food industry.

The event, launched under the slogan “Promising Prospects for Export,” brought together some of the country’s biggest names in sweets, biscuits and chocolate, with producers displaying a wide range of locally made products aimed at both national and international markets.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Foreign Trade and Export Promotion Minister Kamel Rezig said the fair offers a valuable space for companies to connect, exchange expertise and strengthen local production while reducing dependence on imported raw materials.

The exhibition, running from May 16 to 19, is also part of broader efforts to promote Algerian-made products abroad as local brands continue gaining recognition for their quality, packaging and competitive standards. Officials confirmed the event will now become an annual gathering in Boumerdes.

Beyond the colorful stands and sweet aromas, the fair reflects a larger shift in Algeria’s food industry one increasingly driven by local know-how, ambitious entrepreneurs and products that are beginning to earn their place well beyond the country’s borders.
