Jaws Strikes Again !

Jaws is back again this time not on the screens yet in Australia . Sharks attacked yesterday in Australia, more precisely in Queensland, claiming the life of a 39-year-old man after he was peacefully on a dive-fishing session at the Kennedy Shoal, an area long known for fishing and diving activities.

Yet things cannot always be predictable. The man was attacked by bull sharks, considered among the most dangerous sea species to humans due to their tolerance to fresh water and their tendency to swim in coastal waters, lakes, and rivers. Following the attack, emergency services headed to the area immediately, yet the injuries were so severe that he instanstly died from them after being severly hit his head . The last time such an attack occurred close to the area involved a retired US Navy officer, who was also struck by these powerful marine predators.

The area is located quite near the Coral Coast, which is highly frequented during the warm season. Not only that, but the head of fishers in Queensland stated that days earlier, their fishing cargo had been closely observed by a crew of sharks. In addition, the predators ate a large portion of their marquot quotas in the sea. In his view, sharks are competing with fishers, seeing them as a threat to their territory and feeding sources a situation that raises concern over the safety of those workers.

According to fishing experts, the two biggest suspects behind such attacks are mainly bull and tiger sharks. As the saying goes, when push comes to shove, nature always reminds humans who rules the waters. For local fishers, the recent incidents were the last straw, increasing fears over safety along Queensland’s busy coastline.
