June 6 set as final election candidate deadline

With Algeria’s July 2 legislative elections drawing closer, the National Independent Election Authority (ANIE) has set June 6 as the final deadline for submitting replacement candidates on electoral lists affected by rejected applications.
Under the procedure, parties and candidate lists whose nominees have been disqualified must quickly submit replacement files once notified of a rejection. The move ensures electoral authorities can review new candidates while still allowing rejected applicants to challenge the decision through legal appeals.
ANIE explained that candidates who successfully overturn a rejection before the administrative appeals court will regain their place on the electoral list, making any replacement unnecessary. If the court upholds the rejection, however, the approved substitute will officially take the candidate’s spot.
The authority said the replacement process will remain open until June 6, the last date permitted under electoral regulations ahead of next month’s vote.
