Madina Mazouni turns limits into literary strength

From her wheelchair, Madina Mazouni turned physical limitation into literary strength, captivating a fully engaged audience during a heartfelt encounter at the Centre des Arts et de la Culture, Bastion 23, Algiers.

The emotional meeting, held last Saturday, marked the presentation of her bilingual literary saga Heartbeat, under her pen name Madina Mzi. Readers and curious visitors gathered for a “Meet & Greet” session featuring both volumes of the work, followed by discussions and a signing event that highlighted themes of love, resilience, and dreams without borders.

What struck many attendees was not only the story she tells, but the way she tells it. Unable to use a traditional pen due to her condition, Mazouni replaces it with a personal seal, a symbolic signature that has become part of her artistic identity. A trilingual note included in her books written in English, Spanish, and French deepened the emotional connection with readers and left a strong impression on the audience.

The Heartbeat saga, published in English and Spanish, follows the intertwined journeys of Luna, a young woman seeking refuge in writing to escape emotional isolation, and Tomás, a solitary poet and musician whose talent remains in the shadows. Their story explores distance, healing, and the fragile possibility of human connection.

The second volume, set partly in Valencia, adds a brighter tone to the narrative, blending romance with themes of self-acceptance, vulnerability, and personal growth.

Beyond fiction, Mazouni’s presence turned the event into a powerful testimony: literature as a space where barriers fade and emotion takes the lead.
