National biodiversity museum project on the horizon

Algeria has launched a project to build a National Biodiversity Museum in Staoueli, near Algiers, officials announced on Saturday. The initiative, unveiled by Environment Minister Kaouter Krikou during an international biodiversity conference, aims to showcase the country’s rich natural heritage and boost public awareness of conservation.

The launch, held alongside the conference marking World Biodiversity Day, was attended by senior officials including the president of the Constitutional Court, ministers, and foreign delegates from Mauritania, Chad, Portugal and Italy, as well as UN agencies and members of the Algerian diaspora.

Speakers at the event highlighted Algeria’s recent conservation efforts, discussed the national Biodiversity Strategy to 2030, and called for stronger environmental governance to protect ecosystems and sustainably manage natural resources.
