President Tebboune Salutes National Student day

On Algeria’s National Student Day, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune delivered a message blending remembrance, pride and ambition, paying tribute to generations of students who shaped the nation’s past and those expected to drive its future.
Marking the historic May 19 commemoration, Tebboune hailed Algerian students as “the youth of the nation,” praising their role in universities, research centers and innovation hubs across the country. He also highlighted major advances in higher education, saying Algeria’s universities are increasingly adapting to technological change and the demands of a modern economy.
The president drew a powerful parallel between today’s students and the historic 1956 student strike, when young Algerians escaped classrooms to join the liberation struggle against French colonial rule. Calling them symbols of “glory and eternity,” Tebboune honored the sacrifices of a generation that chose freedom over privilege.
Seventy years later, the message turned toward the future. Tebboune pointed to new specialized schools, expanded university hubs and increased investment in scientific research as part of Algeria’s effort to build a knowledge-driven economy powered by youth and innovation.
His address closed with a call for today’s students to carry forward the same patriotic spirit this time through education, creativity and national development.
