Same city 2 different lifestyles

In Algeria, as in every country in the world, lifestyles and ways of living are quite different from one area to another. This reminds me of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air starring Will Smith, a popular American TV series from the 1990s.

The series stars Will Smith as Will, a street-smart teenager born and raised in West Philadelphia. After getting bullied by a local gang, Will is sent to live with his uncle and aunt in the wealthy neighborhood of Bel-Air, Los Angeles. Even though the distance was not that far, the gap between the two neighborhoods was striking.

The series is, in many ways, a reflection of today’s world, where the gap between one area and another can be significant. In some neighborhoods, life seems easier, calmer, and more peaceful. Crowds are reduced, and people live in a quiet atmosphere, while miles away, in what we call “populated neighborhoods,” overcrowding is immediately noticeable, making the area feel busier, less clean, and noisier. Yet, for some, this is precisely what gives these areas their charm. Beyond appearances, even people’s mindsets can differ greatly from those living in “chic quartiers.”

This may be linked to the background of the area, in addition to the people living there who highly contribute to shaping the place. Chic areas are generally associated with higher incomes, better access to healthcare and education, and greater opportunities for residents, while “quartiers populaires” are more likely to face poor infrastructure, overcrowded housing, and disadvantaged living conditions.

Therefore, the main difference between the two districts lies in economic conditions and access to services and opportunities.

Yet life in normal neighborhoods is far more affordable, and their people are known for being highly generous and hospitable. Everybody is there for their neighbors, compared to “chic villas” where people are less likely to be welcoming and are often more distant. This once again shows that there is no perfect place to live; each area has its own advantages and inconveniences. As humans, we are forced to adapt to the situations life places us in while keeping our principles and values high wherever we are.

Finally, we can say that a country is like a galaxy where everyone has their own portion.
