Your Eid sacrifice can help Algeria’s economy, Ministry says

As Eid al-Adha approaches, Algeria’s Ministry of Industry is calling on citizens to turn sacrifice into something valuable beyond the holiday table.

Under a new nationwide campaign titled “From Sacrifice to Factory… Your Sheep’s Skin Has Value,” authorities are encouraging families to preserve and hand over animal hides instead of throwing them away. The initiative aims to recycle Eid skins into locally made leather and textile products while supporting Algerian industry and reducing waste.

Citizens are urged to properly salt and dry the hides before delivering them to designated collection points, in a move officials say can help protect the environment, boost the circular economy and cut reliance on imports.
