Zerrouki taps top scientists to fuel AI and Tech independence

In a decisive move to bridge the gap between academic innovation and digital infrastructure, the Minister of Post and Telecommunications, Sid Ali Zerrouki, officially installed the Sectoral Permanent Committee for Scientific Research and Technological Development on Tuesday.

According to a ministry statement released Wednesday, the new body is designed to align Algeria’s scientific research with the concrete, evolving needs of the telecom sector while keeping pace with rapid global shifts.

The establishment of this committee reflects state directives to foster innovation by linking universities and research centers directly to economic institutions. Minister Zerrouki emphasized that scientific research is a fundamental pillar for building a knowledge economy and securing Algeria’s digital sovereignty, stressing the need to transform raw knowledge into tangible projects that serve national development.

Composed of sectoral officials and national scientific experts, the committee will propose strategic roadmaps for modern postal and tech services while prioritizing homegrown solutions. Zerrouki urged the panel to target fast, high-yield projects and specifically highlighted Artificial Intelligence as a critical priority, calling for immediate investment in local AI solutions to accelerate the nation’s ongoing digital transition.
