Champions in the spotlight

Before packed halls, roaring crowds, and podium celebrations, there is years of sacrifice, discipline, and determination. On Wednesday, Algeria paused to celebrate those efforts as President Abdelmadjid Tebboune honored the nation’s sporting elite during a ceremony at the Palais du Peuple in Algiers.

The event brought together athletes and teams who have proudly carried Algeria’s colors to success on continental and international stages. Among the standout figures was Olympic gymnastics champion Kaylia Nemour, whose remarkable rise has turned her into one of the country’s most inspiring sporting icons. Also recognized was USM Alger, rewarded for its latest African triumph and continued contribution to Algerian football’s continental reputation.

Wheelchair basketball champions, judokas, karatekas, boxers, and kempo athletes were equally celebrated for their medal-winning performances and historic achievements. Beyond the awards, the ceremony served as a powerful message of encouragement, highlighting the growing momentum of Algerian sport and the ambition to build a new generation of champions capable of shining on the world stage.
