Media put on notice ahead of July vote

Ahead of Algeria’s July 2 legislative elections, the National Independent Authority for Audiovisual Regulation (ANIRA) has called on public and private broadcasters to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, neutrality and transparency in their election coverage.
The regulator stressed the need to ensure equal media access for all candidates and political groups, while avoiding misinformation, hate speech and any content that could improperly influence voters. It also reminded media outlets to respect electoral silence rules, clearly separate news from political advertising, and rely on official sources for election-related information.
ANIRA said it will closely monitor compliance throughout the electoral process, emphasizing that responsible journalism remains essential to strengthening public trust and supporting democratic practices.
