Trans-Saharan gas pipeline tops agenda of Niger minister’s visit

Niger’s Minister of Petroleum, Hamadou Téné, arrived in Algiers on Tuesday for a working visit aimed at strengthening energy cooperation between the two neighboring countries. The visit comes as Algeria and Niger seek to expand bilateral ties and accelerate strategic projects in the hydrocarbons sector.
A key highlight of the visit is participation in the fifth ministerial meeting of the steering committee overseeing the Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline (TSGP), which will bring together energy ministers from Algeria, Niger, and Nigeria. The ambitious project is seen as a potential game changer for African energy integration, offering a new route for transporting Nigerian gas to international markets through Algeria.
Beyond energy cooperation, the visit underscores the growing economic partnership between Algiers and Niamey and their shared commitment to advancing regional infrastructure projects that could boost investment, strengthen energy security, and support economic development across the Sahel region.
