Palestinian FM calls for broader Sanctions on settlements

Palestinian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Varsen Shahin has called on the United Kingdom to impose comprehensive sanctions on Zionist settlements and ban settlement products from British markets during talks with UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper in London.

Shahin welcomed Britain’s recognition of the State of Palestine, describing it as an important step that should pave the way for a stronger policy to help end the Zionist occupation and support Palestinian statehood with East Jerusalem as its capital.

She also praised recent British measures, including sanctions on extremist settler groups, renewed support for UNRWA, and assistance for Palestinian students and wounded civilians from Gaza. However, she stressed that more decisive action is needed in response to the ongoing war in Gaza and the situation in occupied Jerusalem.

The Palestinian minister also outlined the Palestinian government’s reform agenda, reaffirming its commitment to holding legislative and presidential elections in the coming months.
